It's All About Summer Baby

Ever since I started watching Cake Boss I've wanted to attempt an extravagant fondant cake.  After watching a 10 episode marathon of Cake Boss last weekend (Yes 10 episodes, it snows a lot here in Ottawa and I can't be bothered to do anything but hibernate), I decided I am going to make one.  My best friend's birthday was last Friday and I thought I'd make the fondant cake for her.  I'm not very creative when it comes to things like cake decorating (or so i thought...) so it was a bit of challenge to come up with a design for it.  Looking outside the window at the endless down pour of snow that was determined to drown us all, I decided to make a beach themed cake! I absolutely LOVE summer, its my favorite season, I love the beach, I love beach wear, I love the sun, I love it all. After a long hard day of fondant cake-ing, I must say, I've outdone myself *tap on the shoulder*. My skills on this cake are just ridiculous, its the cutest fondant cake ever with a full out beach theme!  

I have a beautiful and fervent relationship with sour candy.  They are a must when I'm frolicking about the kitchen baking all day.

The bottom layer of cake is made from chocolate fudge topped with whipped icing and fruit. The top layer (not shown) is vanilla with sprinkles; to add a summery feel.

 Swimsuits, beach towels, umbrellas, cocktails, sunshine and beach balls! 

Et Voila! A few cracks in the fondant but whatever its my first time,  It's so fun I love it. In real life its so much more scrumptious. I bordered the serving board in yellow icing - "It's all about summer baby!", it really is.
